Behind the Scenes with Only Human Productions: KIDS RAISING KIDS

After an incredible 6 week shoot in Canberra, Only Human Productions is excited to be starting post-production on their latest project KIDS RAISING KIDS. Directed by Patrick Abboud, alongside this 1-hour documentary is one of the projects selected for SBS’s coveted ‘Australia Uncovered’ initiative that aims to tackle some of the biggest issues in Australia today in the most revealing, surprising and compelling ways.

KIDS RAISING KIDS takes audiences inside Canberra College (CC) – a unique school for teen parents but our characters’ lessons are not confined to the classroom. We are with them wherever their journeys take us. Many of the students are single parents, some are overcoming family trauma and drug dependency and all are navigating a complex system. What unites them is a will to transform their lives – to get an education, stay on the right side of the law, and be the best parents they can be.

The stereotype that only teens from low-socio economic, or specific cultural backgrounds fall pregnant is challenged by the diversity of Canberra College’s student body. The policy at CC is “If they’re willing to come, we’re willing to take them” and there are new enrolments all year round. All students at CC have something to prove, something to learn, and a child they hope will have a better life than them. 

KIDS RAISING KIDS is supported by Screen Canberra, Screen NSW, Screen Australia and SBS. Stay tuned for the films release in late 2022.
